What you get each year
| Leave | Days | For |
|---|---|---|
| Annual | 14 | Planned time off, university, and lateness |
| Casual | 6 | Short unplanned absences |
| Sick | 8 | Illness, with a hospital receipt |
Public holidays are separate. They do not come out of these days. See the holidays page.
Which leave to use
University. Exams, classes, or viva. Half day or full day, it comes off annual.
Ill, but you only bought medicine. Flu, fever, upset stomach. Use casual.
Ill enough to see a doctor. Use sick. You need the hospital receipt. If you have no receipt, it comes off casual.
Part of a day. Three hours or half a day costs one full casual day. There are no half days.
Hours and lateness
Work starts at 9 AM and ends at 7 PM. You get 15 minutes’ grace. After 9:15 AM is late.
Four lates in a month take one day off your annual leave.
How to mark your time is on the check-in and check-out page.
How to ask
Annual. Ask the operations lead in writing one week before. For more than five days together, ask two weeks before.
Casual. Ask at least one day before, so we can plan the work. You can take three days at a time, no more.
Sick. Tell us as early in the day as you can. Bring the receipt when you come back.
If you work on a client project, tell your project lead before you book leave.
When your leave runs out
When your annual leave is finished, you must work back any more time off. Agree the time with the operations lead.
Carrying over
Annual carries over up to 14 days. Sick carries over up to 16 days. Casual does not carry over.
Examples
| What happened | Which leave |
|---|---|
| You have a university exam in the morning | Annual |
| You have fever and take medicine at home | Casual |
| You see a doctor and bring the hospital receipt | Sick |
| You see a doctor but have no receipt | Casual |
| You leave at 3 PM and do not come back | One full casual day |
| You were late four times this month | One annual day |
You want Monday 10 March off.
This is annual leave. Tell the operations lead in writing by Monday 3 March. That is one week before.
You want the whole week of 10 March off.
That is more than five days together, so you need two weeks’ notice. Tell them by 24 February.
You wake up with fever on Tuesday.
Message the operations lead on Tuesday morning. Not on Tuesday evening.
If you see a doctor, bring the receipt when you come back. Then it is sick leave. With no receipt it is casual leave.
You want Thursday off for a family event.
This is casual leave, so tell them by Wednesday. Telling them on Thursday morning is too late.
You need to leave at 3 PM for three hours and you will not come back.
That costs one full casual day. There are no half days.
Your annual leave is finished and you need two more days.
You can still take the time, but you must work it back. Agree the days with the operations lead first.
